Three Levels of Support Coordination
- Level 1 — Support Connection: Time-limited help to understand your plan and connect to a couple of providers. Usually for participants whose support needs are stable and straightforward.
- Level 2 — Coordination of Supports: The most common level. Ongoing help to coordinate multiple providers, build capacity over time, and respond to changing needs. Most participants who use a coordinator are at this level.
- Level 3 — Specialist Support Coordination: For participants whose situation is complex — multiple providers, complex health needs, behavioural support requirements, accommodation transitions, or significant risk factors. Specialist coordinators usually have a clinical background.

Your NDIS plan will say what level (if any) is funded. If you think you need a higher level than what is funded, your coordinator can request a change at the next plan review. We will tell you honestly if your situation seems like a Level 2 or Level 3 fit.
Is support coordination funded for everyone?
No. Support coordination is funded for participants whose situation is complex enough to need it. Participants with simpler arrangements are usually expected to manage providers themselves with help from a Local Area Coordinator (LAC).
Can I change support coordinators if I am not happy?
Yes. You can change coordinators at any time — you do not need a reason. If you want to switch to us from another coordinator, we will help with the handover. If you want to switch from us to someone else, we will help just as cleanly.
What is the difference between a support coordinator and a Local Area Coordinator (LAC)?
LACs work for the NDIA and help participants understand and access the NDIS more broadly. They are free, but their time is limited and they are not part of your plan funding. Support coordinators are funded in your plan, work directly for you, and have time to manage ongoing coordination work that LACs cannot.
Can a support coordinator help me with my plan review?
Yes — this is one of the most useful things they do. A coordinator helps you put together evidence of what is and is not working, articulate what you want for the next plan, and request appropriate funding levels. Most participants get more out of plan reviews when a coordinator is involved.
